The material originates from the newspaper and includes glass negatives (circa 1918-1932), nitrate negatives (circa 1925-45), and safety negatives (circa 1935-1990). Biography The Los Angeles Times was founded in 1881 when Nathan Cole Jr. and Thomas Gardiner hired the Mirror Printing Office and Book Bindery to print the first edition of the Los Angeles Daily Times ; Cole (and Gardiner) gave up ownership of The Times to Jesse Yarnell, T.J.
